PARTICIPATION IN PROVINCIAL STEWARDSHIP PROGRAMS

Every Canadian province has passed or will be enacting legislation and regulations dealing with the reclamation and recycling of e-waste. FCM Recycling is an approved recycler of electronic products under all of the provincial stewardship programs in place across Canada.

These programs are managed by EPRA (the Electronics Products Recycling Association) in most provinces and ARMA in Alberta.

THE ALBERTA RECYCLING MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY (ARMA) IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MANAGING ALBERTA’S ELECTRONICS RECYCLING PROGRAM. THE ORGANIZATION REPORTS TO THE ALBERTA MINISTER OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND SUSTAINABLE RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT.

THE ONTARIO ELECTRONIC STEWARDSHIP (OES) IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ELECTRONICS RECYCLING PROGRAM IN ONTARIO. IT REPORTS TO WASTE DIVERSION ONTARIO (WDO) UNDER THE ONTARIO WASTE DIVERSION ACT. THE OES PROGRAM IS OPERATED BY THE ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS RECYCLING ASSOCIATION (EPRA).

THE ATLANTIC PROVINCES, QUEBEC, MANITOBA, SASKATCHEWAN, AND BC ARE MANAGED BY THE ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS RECYCLING ASSOCIATION (EPRA). EPRA WAS ESTABLISHED IN 2011 BY MEMBERS OF ELECTRONICS PRODUCT STEWARDSHIP CANADA (EPSC) AND THE RETAIL COUNCIL OF CANADA (RCC).

THE REGULATORY QUALIFICATION OFFICE (RQO), ESTABLISHED BY THE EPSC, IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SETTING THE STANDARDS AND AUDITING THE VARIOUS PROCESSORS TO INSURE COMPLIANCE WITH ALL OF THE REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS.
